Purple Marmite

Well its been 24hrs since last night’s Golden Globes ceremony and the internet is abuzz with  Meryl vs Resident Chump, Hidden Fences and Tracee Ellis Ross. It seems the main chatter amongst the fatosphere though was this dress worn by Chrissy Metz.

From the posts that I read on the Garner Style Facebook page the majority of commenters hated it and felt her stylist should be fired/ run out of town. My opinion? I liked all of it apart from the shoulders. I love the colour and you probably already know that velvet is my favourite fabric so of course I like that too. I think the drape of the dress is exquisite and I love the gathers and detailing at the front but the shoulders…. man the shoulder action just let the whole thing down in my humble opinion. Are those actually shoulder pads? Are we back there again? Maybe Chrissy is single-handedly going to bring them back to the fashion fore. She could become the next Balmain muse as they love a pronounced shoulder. Maybe not as we also know high-end designers don’t dress fat people.

Still, I’m pretty much through with begging people to make clothes in my size. I’ll just take my custom to someone who is interested in bigger bodies and stop wasting my breath and bandwidth. On that note, come through Nathan Paul! I’m off to find out more about the man who designed the much talked about frock.

On the telly again?

BigTelly.jpg

Can you believe I’m on TV again? No neither can I. I don’t think my consitution can take much more of this. It’s a whole lot of fun but it really doesn’t come naturally. I’m so aware of the camera but I hope it doesn’t show. As expected, I thought of 101 things to say once we stopped filming. I wish my brain would stop working in reverse. If you are in the UK and want to hear me ramble on for a few minutes about fashion, tune into a show called “The Week with Carl Jones” on Big Centre TV- Freeview 8, Virgin 159. Programme airs tonight at 7.30pm and Saturday at 10am. You can also catch it online.  If you see it let me know what you think!

Queen Latifah- What Do You Think?

I don’t watch American Idol so I’m 3 weeks late to this particular party, plus, I don’t usually do “hot or not” style celebrity outfit critique style posts- BUT, I couldn’t let this pass me by.

I just saw these photos on the Daily News website and had to comment. You’ve heard me harp on and on about jumpsuits in past posts so you know I’m a diehard jumpsuit advocate who wants the trend to last FOREVER, but is this particular jumpsuit working or not?

I’m not totally convinced that it is. Its not God awful but it could be better. Actually, I would go as far as to say that she looks great in all these static shots but I’ve seen other photos that aren’t so hot. Plus, I’ve not seen any footage of her performance so see the suit “in action”. I love this jumpsuit from the waist upwards but not from the waist down as I think its a smidge too tight. If it looked like this one from the waist down or like these, her whole look would have been on fire but as it is it just kinda sizzles a little and falls on its face which is a shame really.

That’s just my two cents worth, what do you think?

……….

Addendum some hours later…

Ok, so I’ve come back and found a few more images and am warming to the skintight jumspuit look a bit more and truly appreciating the guts it took to wear it but I still don’t like the bottom half. Two questions: Do I think QL is too big to wear it? NOPE. Figurewise she looks hot but do I like the actual jumpsuit? NOPE. I have tried to envisage Amber Rose in something similar and I still don’t think I’d like it (the bottom half) then. I immediately thought of Amber Rose because I remember this photo of her in the hot pink skintights and this photo of her in red and if she was wearing this jumpsuit I still wouldn’t be sold. Oh well. Latifah, I still loves ya! (from the waist up) 🙂

Gok’s Fashion Fix #3

I should re-name this the Gok Wan, Beth Ditto Jumpsuit Blog because that’s all I seem to bang on about. True to form, this post is about Gok and the Fashion Fix prog earlier this week. I’m a bit late with this but sometimes life just gets in the way of the good stuff. Apologies for the crappy pics too and that irritating black bar through the centre of half of them- taking photos of the TV is trickier than I thought.

This week Gok performed his usual magic on a 33 year old size 18 woman who had a wardrobe full of black clothes- 215 items of black clothing to be precise. Among all the black items she had a selection of clothes from her slimmer days that she was holding onto just in case she ever lost weight, (I can relate!) which of course were thrown out. The black items were relegated and “Auntie Gok” waved his magic wand and gave her wardrobe a colour injection in the way of gorgeous Anna Scholz clothing and a selection of high street items.

How did she look? Well I didn’t like the first outfit although I did like most of the individual items. I love the neckline on that top but didn’t like it teamed with the turquoise necklace. Yes it draws the eye upwards which was Gok’s intention but she looks a bit like shes being strangled (plus a tad bit mumsy)…….. and I didn’t like the jacket at all.

On the other hand, she looked GORGEOUS in the Anna Scholz dress which yes, is still a black base but with that beautiful print it can be excused.

Further in the programme the Fashion Fix test panel tried out shirts by going on a supermarket sweep type trolley dash around a supermarket making sure they jump and bounce around to give the shirts as rigorous a testing as possible to see if they ride up, pull and pop buttons. The best one of the bunch scored 10/10 and was this shirt by Bravissimo

– which is especially tailored for big busts. It comes in sizes 8- 18 and is available in bust sizes curvy, really curvy and super curvy and there is a size chart on the website to help you determine which curvy cut you need. Its a great idea which means you no longer have to have a shirt that flaps around your belly just so that it can accommodate a large bust. Genius. However, all the larger sizes have sold out and there are only sizes 8, 10 and 12 left at the moment. There are other specially tailored garments on the website so its worth checking out.

You can watch all the Fashion Fix programmes for yourself on the Channel 4 website here, where you can also find more info on all the items featured in all the programmes.
