I ordered several in sizes 18-22 and had to send them all back to the supplier. Yup, every last one. Reason- extremely poor fit and they were badly made. I was SO ANNOYED. I saw these dresses at Moda in February and I was ecstatic to find bright, unique plus size dresses that I ordered two styles on the spot. The company I bought them from (who shall remain nameless) has been in business for many years and have recently started this new line of retro inspired dresses. I thought- hooray! I’ve not seen them anywhere else and they will look fab on the body. The range of fabrics was splendid too. I eagerly awaited their arrival like a child waiting for Christmas morning and I was sorely disappointed. The dress below is apparently a size 22 and it just about fits my size 18 mannequin. Not only that, look at the gaping bust. I tried it on a friend and a good 3 inches of her bra was left exposed at the sides.
Here is the Darlene Dress from belovedendeaour.com. This is how a good fitting armhole is supposed to look. It’s a size 18 dress on the same size 18 mannequin. If you visit the website you can see how well it fits my model. If you need further proof please see my previous post where the same dress is modelled by Hanna.
Look at this dress below. Do you see any proper bust shaping? Does this dress look like it could contain size 22 breasts? It’s as flat as a pancake. I’m not even going to mention the stripe imbalance.
Other quality control crimes…
I have waited until I’ve received my refund before writing this post in case the company in question try any funny business. It’s another example of people trying to cash in on the fat pound without actually trying to make clothes that fit. How many times do you hear that you cannot just size up from a size 10 to a 22 and expect everything to work. If you are going to develop a plus size line you MUST cut the initial pattern to fit a plus body otherwise it JUST WON’T WORK. It’s sad because you all responded so well to the pictues when I posted them and I was confident that I had found a great new supplier that I could keep going back to. They were even willing to develop sizes 24 and 26 for me but if you can’t even get a size 18 right how are you going to perfect a 26? All this during the week that this article appeared on Refinery 29 where a blogger compares her experience of shopping for a plus size bikini in s straight size store and shopping for one from Swimsuits For All that are cut for a curvy figure. Fit is too important for retailers/ manufacturers to get it so consistently wrong. If you really are so unconcerned with creating clothes that fit your customers then just don’t bother having the line. If your primary goal is to make clothes as quickly as possible without any consideration for quality of manufacture then shut up shop. We can do without your insults and will take our money elsewhere.
I can’t get this video to upload but its well worth watching! Click the image to view.
I am currently working on building our offering of brand new modern pieces but of course this will take time. As the homepage says, it’s a labour of love so I am here beavering away with a smile to bring you more great clothing. More updates coming soon. In the meanwhile, please stop by the site and let me know your thoughts!
I’m calling this outfit my International Footballer look. My interest in football is less than zero, however, as soon as I got dressed this morning I had an overwhelming desire to go for a kickabout. Never before in Deena history has this happened. This is partially because the polkadots on my new Irregular Choice trainers reminded me of miniature footballs, and partially because of the hybrid Italian/ Jamaican flag polo shirt that almost made me wish the World Cup was on. Almost.
Please excuse the poor picture quality. I bought the top over the summer but I’m only just getting round to wearing it as I have to say I was a little disappointed in it but not enough to send it back. Its a bit shorter than I had expected and didn’t look as good as I hoped it would with a black denim pinafore I bought from Asos. In fact, I looked like a Rod, Jane and Freddy substitute ready to stand in for any member should they suddenly be unable to perform. I held onto it though because it’s very soft and I like the delicate pointelle knit. It’s comfortable to wear but I’m still not crazy for it. There is another colourway available- its from Simply Be.
I am however, crazy for my Irregular Choice trainers. They are from the men’s section but who cares? Why should the boys have all the polkadotty fun?
Now these are comfy. They’re not as comfy as proper athletic trainers as they’re designed to look good rather than perform, but I have still marched around the city all day with ease and might even go and get the same shoe in another colour. At £29.99 I can afford to do so without breaking open the piggy bank.
Irregular Choice are now firmly back on my reality radar as I now know they’ll fit me and I have my eyes on these…
Theres a hint of Mary Poppins about them but I don’t see that as a bad thing really. Now which colour to go for?……
I am SO not made for TV. My piece on Cuppa TV/ Big Centre TV was aired today and I deliberately avoided the 10am showing as I just could not face it. I half watched and half heard the 4.30 airing through closed eyes and fingers in my ears. My voice sounds SO STRANGE that I may never speak again. Its very rare that I hear a recording of my voice and its barely recogniseable. If you missed it you can watch it here though it may not play outside the UK. If you are outside the UK and the link works please let me know!
So yesterday I stepped WAAAAAY outside of my comfort zone and did a TV interview. And I survived. It’s not my first TV piece (I did one in 2009-ish) but it still had me bricking it. I’m not someone who likes centre stage, I’m not a talker, I’m more of a writer so the internet suits me just fine. Audiovisuals make me lose sleep. Theres no thinking time and no self editing. I apologise now if I say something daft!
The show will be aired this morning at 10am and this afternoon at 4.30 on Freeview Channel 8 and Virgin 159. Eek!
