Let Me Upstage Ya

I don’t think that there is much by way of clothing that I shy away from anymore. My fondness of jumpsuits has reached legendary status, horizontal stripes have never fazed me (although they seem to alarm anyone looking at my stripe clad body), and bright colours and large prints are my happy place. Sequins however, have never featured on my clothing as anything more than a modest motif. Not because I have avoided them, but because I rarely go anywhere so glam that a full on sequin look wouldn’t be classed as overkill. Well having been inspired by many a fatshion blogger over the years who dares to go OTT in Tesco, baroque at the bus stop and slay in Sainsbury’s, I plan to follow suit and will be giving it loads in the living room on Christmas day. I know my family will wonder why I’m so extra but in a house with no Christmas tree or festive decorations of any sort, I’m planning to have all eyes on me and provide the sparkle that’s missing from the walls. My only concern is how close the pailettes can get to the oven before they buckle and warp, much like my inflated sense of importance.

Wedding Belle

As you canĀ observe from my expression, twirling is serious business.

wedding1wedding5

Ever put on an outfit so great that someone would have to work really hard to mess with your vibe because you feel so good? Well on Friday I wore such an outfit.

As my nephew was getting married I decided to treat myself to a whole newĀ look and I called on you to help plan it. If you follow me on Insta (@fatgirlclothes) you may remember me posting this pic and asking you to vote for what I should wear…

dressoptions

I really liked all three and couldn’t decide. Option A won so the pretty floral dress it was. You chose well ladies! I was already liking the asymmetric ruffle feature across the front but when it arrived I loved it even more because of the attention to detail on the back…

plus size dress Asos

Asos didn’t scrimp on the frills as theyĀ continueĀ on the back. Don’t you just hate it when a great design feature is only on the front when it could easily have been extended to the rear? The open back feature was a pleasant surprise and there are even frills at the end of the ties if you look closely. Asos Curve I love you.

My original shoes were these from New Look

New Look wide fit shoes

But they were a bit too narrow, even in the wide fit. Instead I opted for the silver sandals fromĀ from Simply Be which fit perfectly as they are available in an E and EEE fitting (I got the EEE fit). In any case, the weather was such a scorcher on Friday that the Sandals were definitely the better option than the closed toe shoes. The in sole padding and slight texture ensured that my feet didn’t slide around as the temperature rose.

The clutch was fromĀ Asos too, is leather and a great quality itemĀ for a bargainicious Ā£10. It has a zipĀ closure to keep all your goodies from falling out when you’reĀ pirouetting across open spaces with gay abandon.

Earrings from Topshop. Lots of asymmetry in this whole look

Asos Curve

I’ve just checked the Asos site and this dress is very low in stock with only a few left. I give it a big fat seal of approval and am looking forward to wearing it again. ApartĀ from myĀ twirl dress being great, the wedding itself was superb. The bride and groom looked gorgeous, the service was lovely, the reception venue wasĀ beautiful,Ā most of my familyĀ were thereĀ and it was hot. Not warm which isĀ often the best you can hope for in a British summer- HOT. IfĀ I have my shades on you know its more than just a little sunny.Ā It was as close to perfect as any day could be and when I finally went to bed around 2am it was with a bigĀ smile on my face. As Ice Cube said- today was a good day.

Love Me or Leave Me Alone

I like this meme….

redgran

…… because it pretty much sums up my relationship with H&M. I know it’s a bit repetitive as I’ve said it before on here and on various social media platforms, but the plus section in H&M consistently looks like a regurgitated dogs dinner. Despite this being my thought for over 12 years I keep going in there whenever I visit Intu Merry Hill and each time I see that pathetic looking collection of clothing in the dingy space under the escalators, I give it a quick once over, shake my head andĀ  tootle on over to Simply Be. Yep, H&M still aint sh…

Now it’s not that everything in the range is always terrible. Not everything and not always. As the saying goes, even a broken clock is right twice a day- but don’t bother using it to check the time at any other point. You might on the off-chance find something decent amongst the doldrums, butĀ  the collection is so unloved that it takes sheer shopping determination/ desperation/ exasperation to bring yourself to look through the shadows of the uninviting rails. There are no show stoppers- or even show starters. In fact there are barely any opening credits to even let you know there’s anything going on that might be worthy of your attention. They had a space to fill under the escalators and they filled it with this. Buy it if you want to but we’re not fussed. I’d really prefer them to just pull the plug on the whole lot and leave a space there. Plonk down a couple of sofas, or a mini bar. Maybe a DJ, a crĆØche, a portaloo, or at the very least somewhere I can charge my phone.Ā  Cancel the entire collection. No one at H&M cares about it so they need to stop pretending they do. In the words of Brand Nubian- Love me, or leave me alone.

Irregularities

LADIES. Did you know that Irregular Choice carries shoes up to a size UK10??? SIZE TEN?!!

I have always loved Irregular choice shoes and have owned a couple of pairs in my life that I’ve worn into the ground. However, I’ve never been able to buy many because my feet are a size 8-9 and ultra wide to boot. I usually am restricted to gazing lovingly at them whenever I go to Schuh as their size 8 rarely fits. Thats pretty standard in most stores. Well I was in London a few days ago and popped into the I.C store in Camden for a general browse to tease myself to a higher degree and I noticed a pair of womens shoes on display that looked really big. I picked them up and they were indeed a size 43. I asked at the desk if only select styles went to a 43 and was told no- THEY ALL DO.

Wait- WHAT?!

Yes. Irregular Choice womens shoes go up to a size UK10/ 43. I nearly fell over and it was hard to contain myself. I would hear myself rambling at speed to the sales assistants who were probably wondering if I should even be allowed out on my own. You might all know this already as its not a new development but it was news to me. Mentally I spent about Ā£1000 in a matter of seconds.

Another shoe brand I love is Office but Office don’t love me back. I’ve written to them before to complain about their very limited size 9 offering (standard styles in basic colours) and while I can’t remember the details of the response I got, several years later nothing has changed.

Now look at these…

ic3

All available in a size 10 on the IC website. Would I wear them all? No- but thats not the point. The point is that THEY ARE AVAILABLE. If IC can do this why can’t Office or Dune any other shoe shop? Plus size fashion has come a long way but larger size footwear is several steps behind. Irregular Choice is again going against the tide and showing their competitors how it’s done.
