Don’t Call it a Comeback

I’ve been here for years. Eleven years in fact. Its been almost a full 365 since my last post and I have missed this old place. We have been interacting via Insta, but I have neglected my first home and its pining for attention so I’m dusting off the cobwebs with a splash of vintage style.

Fur has never been my thing. Fake or real, I was never really into it but this vintage coat made me stop, collaborate and listen. I bought it in March when it was quite mild and not cold enough to wear it, but now the temperature has fallen its having its moment. Teamed with my new Simply Be top, vintage bag and old faithful DM boots, I looked a lot dressier than I had planned and I liked it, esp the fact that it made me feel like King Jaffe Joffer from Coming to America. Now all I need is a gazillion pounds and my own kingdom.

I don’t know what I found quite so funny but obviously SOMETHING was amusing me.

In the Night Garden

Its beginning to look a lot like……

I am usually quite an un-Christmassy person but I have noticed a change in me since last year and I don’t know what has brought it on. I bought a christmas ornament last December which sounds really minute but considering I usually don’t celebrate outside of the traditional family dinner on the 25th, and ignore anything Crimble related- my £1 secondhand decoration is big news.

So why was CHRRRIIIIIIISSSSSSTMMAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSS the first thing I screamed when I saw this fabric?

The deep navy tones, the gold overlay is just asking for a December party outing. So I made a party outfit.

The colour is DIVINE. It looks solid navy from a distance but in the second photo you can see the purply red tones. I plan to wear it on Christmas day and quite probably for NYE too if I go anywhere. I’m killing two birds with one African wax printed stone.

So where is the ensemble from? I made it 🙂

Those of you who follow me on Insta (@fatgirlclothes) will know that I am in love with African wax prints. Not a new discovery but I have a new appreciation for them and I simply cannot get enough. Ankara is the way forward- so much so that I have opened a new Etsy shop called “Paree” selling handmade ankara clothing for women and girls. Paree is a Mandinka word meaning “Well Dressed” so I thought it was quite apt. The two piece I’m wearing is available there and can be made in any size- plus or straight. Got a body? It can be made to fit you. Please check out the shop. I’m sewing oodles of great garms from this endless array of fabric I keep discovering. Ankara is a fabric lovers dream and I don’t believe I will ever wake up.

December Wedding

How are you good readers doing? I know its been a while since I last posted but I am thankfully still alive. I hope you are having a lovely festive season and catching up on rest and recuperation as well as with family and friends.

I have definitely been doing ALL of that and one of the ways I’ve caught up with family was by attending my cousin’s wedding last week. It was a BEAUTIFUL event in gorgeous surroundings and it was wonderful to reunite with family members I haven’t seen for years.

What did I wear? Its winter and I was SO tempted to just bundle up in something with a high neck and long sleeves but I figured nah, I don’t buy winter coats for no reason so I opted for girly dress with an autumnal theme………

Ain’t it gorgeous? Now I’m not one for off the shoulder dresses as I have yet to find a sturdy enough strapless bra to keep the girls aloft, but I loved this frock so much I thought I would buy it anyhow. I adjusted it slightly by adding rouleau loops and beads to the back so that I could have the off the shoulder bits on the shoulder. I’m wearing the size 24.

This worked well though it did make the middle of the back collapse a bit so I needed to make a few minor adjustments.

I found this gorgeous 1950s vintage fascinator on Etsy at His n Her Vintage that I LOVED as soon as I saw it and it was a perfect match for the dress.

I bought a new lippie a few weeks previously and it was another precise pairing.

The shoes I have had for about 4 years but never worn. I bought them (from Clarks) because I loved the colour but had zippo to wear them with so they stayed pristine in their box until this day. Jewellery- Earrings by Shining Seren

I had a great day and the only downside is that I returned home minus one earring. Handmade. Silver. I have had them for years. I could cry.

Roll with the Punches

Its been a funny ole week. Two of the pop up events in my last post were scheduled for this week and neither of them actually happened as they were cancelled by the organisers for one reason or another. All my hard work to prepare just down the toilet. Still, it could all be a lot worse. I have a lot to be thankful for so I really can’t complain too loudly. All I can do is keep on pushing and dance with Darlene.

Dancing with Darlene

Darlene is my trusted Kennett & Lindsell mannequin that I bought on Ebay a couple of years ago for a mere fraction of her true value and she is really serving me well. Darlene is wearing the size 2XL Hell Bunny Tutti Fruiti dress that is approx. a size UK18 and as you can see, it fits all her curves perfectly. I’m wearing the 4XL Monte Carlo dress which is officially the equivalent to a size 22 but the fabric has some stretch so I’m just about able to fit my size 24/26 body into it. It fits me very closely but evidently, that hasn’t stopped me.

Hands down my dress of the season. I love the low back and the fact that its got pockets. No bra peepage at the sides of my boobs either. I’ll still be wearing it in the autumn, just adding layers of tights and cardigans. Oh- it has pockets too. It’s a done deal.

Both dresses available at Belovedendeavour.com

Floral Showcase

Yours truly modelling the FEARNE floral suit from Beloved Endeavour. I’m wearing the size 24. I usually wear a size 24/26 and this fits me fine as it’s stretchy. The fabric is medium weight, soft and very comfy to wear. I’m modelling both colours (black and mint) then the last two photos show the black jacket with the mint skirt. Availability is very limited so get yours now!
