About this site

This blog is primarily about fashion with a few other random things thrown in for good measure. Its about plus size fashion specifically and not really about body politics. I’m not anti diet or pro diet- your body is your business and its not my place to tell you what you should weigh (although I think I occasionally do rant a bit about not beating yourself up over every extra half pound). It is my place though to tell you that whether you weigh 100lbs or 300lbs you should make sure you look fantastic at all times!

Love fashion, life in general and email 🙂 . Make me happy by tappity tap tapping to:

You are an inspiration-I am sending all of my clients to your blog. I am a wardrobe consultant and I believe every woman is fab in every size. You might have heard about a great new bodyshaper that helps you lose 3 dress sizes in 5 mins!!! The Body Magic is the ultimate in bodyshapers-better than any well known brand for girls with REAL curves. ALL my clients (no matter the size) gain a true hourglass shape-no love handles, etc. Additional plus-it can help with weight loss IF that is your goal (some of my clients chose to remain voluptuously beautiful) Check out this site: ardyss.com Email: chicsavage@yahoo.com Hope you like it

  3. I love your site!! Thank you so much for letting women know that there are options out there for plus sized girls to dress well and express themselves. Please let us know if you or your readers ever have any questions (yes, we do ship internationally!!) and thanks for the link.

In my quest to find pictures of the Beth Ditto range a few weeks ago, I stumbled across your blog. I think its absolutely fantastic!!

I love seeing pictures of you trying on random pieces 🙂 I’m not a shy person, but sometimes my size inhibits me from pushing that extra inch with my style. Seeing you go for it gives me the kick up the arse that I need!

I’ve ordered the domino dress tonight – can’t wait till delivery on tuesday 🙂

    EVANS SALE!!

Loads of stuff reduced, including Beth Ditto range!! I just bought the jumpsuit 😦

Thought I should let you know just in case you weren’t already aware – get shopping! xx

    • Deena says:

OMG I’m about to go there right this minute! Thanks!!

      • carly says:

My pleasure 🙂 Thought I would clarify – I bought the jumpsuit 2 weeks ago at full price hence the grumpy/sad face!

By the way – the trick is to wear it the other way round – with plenty of cleavage – was recommended by the helpful staff in Evans in Cardiff – looks much better 🙂

        xx

      • Deena says:

oh REALLY! I am going to have to try that because I think I am about to buy it. I know how you feel about buying stuff and seeing that its reduced a week later- esp if you haven’t worn it yet.

Hi, I just want to say how much I enjoy reading your blog. I’m not a plus-sized female (quite the opposite really, a small-sized Asian male) so I probably don’t fit in your target demographic. But I love your witty observations, your great eye for fashion. I also love that you know just what makes you look great, and complements your style and personality. That kind of wisdom is a definite WANT!

  25. fenola says:

    heyy,
i saw your interveiw on live from studio five.
i think you should be proud of your curves
but is it healthy to be to big?
maybe high street shops dont produce big clothes because people shouldnt be this size because it’s not healthy to be overweight.

    • Deena says:

Health is about so much more than simply weight that you can’t just assume someone is unhealthy because they wear a size 20 or whatever, the same way that you can’t assume that someone is in perfect health because they’re a size 10. Of course, there are dangerous extremes at either end of the scale which I’m not trying to deny at all, I just think that generally, health is a far more complex issue. Also, Fashion is all about image so I really don’t believe that the matter of health is the motivation behind the decision of many retailers who only create clothes up to a certain size.

      • Ang says:

It’s true. I’m a size 22 and I have no health problems except I have fat. I do checkups every 3 months, and I’m in the normal range health. Lol, I ask my doctor how is it even possible? Besides, some skinny people are actually more unhealthy than an overweight person. I have a friend who is 105 pounds, with high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health issues. I understands size 20 or even 22 is unhealthy, but even in the 60’s a size 12,14,16 was considered a healthy beautiful woman! It’s just people’s preconceptions of weight and what looks good. Fashion is all shapes and sizes, all materials, all types, and shouldn’t be only available for skinnier people. It should be for everyone!

    Hi Diane,

I saw the article in which you spoke with woman magazine. I was so toally inspired and had to look up your webpage. I’m 31 years 5.9 tall a size 26/28 but with very odd proportions (short legs long torso) finding great plus size fashion is so hard but I have bookmarked your blog and will be keeping an eye on what you recomend

    • Deena says:

      *waving* Hello, and welcome!

Oops my typo I did mean Bella lol (read too many magazines) but what I said I meant. I so need the Anna Sholtz black label horse print maxi dress….She does great clothes for tall BBW babes

  31. Vida says:

Let me start with ….I love your blog BIG time.
Now for the science bit, I am getting married in April 2011 and have you tried finding a wedding dress for a size 30 body that isnt a beige strapless nightmare?
I am young and quite cool and really dont want one of those dresses. Does anyone know of anywhere or anyone that does funky 50s style dresses upto my size??
I may have to get married in jeans if all else fails!

Please Help – im a fat woman ont he edge!!!

    • Deena says:

Thanks for the blog love 🙂

Did you find the blog through the piece I wrote for Perfect Wedding? I ask because I remember flicking through the mag and seeing an advert for a store that did wedding dresses up to a size 30- something. Or is that where all the ugly beige dresses are? Where are you from? I think you will probably have to get something custom made because I can’t think of anywhere you might be able to get a 50s style dress from in your size off the rail. If I come up with anything I will be sure to let you know.

  32. Anni says:

    Hey!

PLUS-SIZE TO MAKE DEBUT IN NEW YORK FASHION WEEK WITH ONESTOPPLUS.COM
The World’s Top Plus-Size Retailer Proves Fashion is Not Limited by Size

New York, NY (August 17, 2010) OneStopPlus.com, a brand under the Redcats USA umbrella and the premiere online destination for curvy women who demand high style in plus size fashion, will produce the first ever plus-size-only runway show during New York Fall Fashion Week. Set for September 15th, 2010 at The Atrium in Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center, famed curvy models will walk the OneStopPlus.com show featuring the latest collections for Spring 2011.

OneStopPlus.com is taking a stand to prove that curvy women are equally as beautiful and as fashionable as their size two counterparts with a plus-size runway show coinciding with the high-fashion shows located at Lincoln Center. The noteworthy event will showcase top trend-driven styles, featured on prominent models such as: Lizzie Miller, and Tocarra Jones, who have been chosen to flaunt their curves down the runway. Emme, the plus-size icon and brand ambassador to OneStopPlus.com, will be hosting the red carpet.

“The recent confluence of events and energy within the plus-size movement makes this the perfect time for OneStopPlus.com to debut at New York Fashion Week,” says Stephanie Sobel, President of OneStopPlus.com. “Top plus-size models like Crystal Renn and Lizzie Miller in Italian Vogue, French Elle, Glamour, Marie Claire, and others, validate that this is the magic moment for plus sizes.”

OneStopPlus.com is a pioneer in the ever-changing fashion industry, proving that the 62% of American Women who are plus-size can also experience the high-fashion lifestyle.

Zahir Babvani, VP of Design of OneStopPlus.com says, “This show is a collaborative effort to provide the extraordinary community of plus-size American women with the uncompromising style that they have always deserved but never received. It’s about inclusion and fashion democracy: fashion risk-taking and empowerment. No more seeing what you can’t have; this is a fashion party that invites and inspires everyone.”

Taking a dramatic stance on behalf of women around the world, OneStopPlus.com highlights the plus-size revolution that is currently taking place in fashion, inviting the industry to attend the exclusively themed Belle Epoque, the Golden Age plus-size fashion show. Brands to be showcased include the best in American and European plus-size designs.
“We find ourselves in a new golden age that is plus-size fashion,” says Galina Monaco, Designer of OneStopPlus.com. “Befitting our collection, elements of Belle Epoque are present with touches of feminine lace, rich drapery, decorative florals and, of course, the gilded shine of slight sequin embellishment.”

OneStopPlus.com is working with 5W Public Relations and OBO LLC (the global event management firm), to create and execute this historic event. For additional information, please visit: http://www.onestopplus.com , our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter at @onestopplus.

    Hey there!

Just stumbled across your site and I’m hooked! You have such a flair with everything – fashion, humour and your writing – its fantastic! Given me the much needed boost for today!! 🙂

  54. Lor says:

How much do I love this site? A WHOLE LOT.

Since I was diagnosed with a thyroid problem about a 1 1/2 years ago, I’ve gained quite a bit of weight thanks to my medication (going from a US 10 to US 16: doesn’t sound awful, but I’m only 5’2 and never had a well defined waist to begin with), and am feeling terrifically dowdy because I keep wearing over sized items in the hopes of hiding my weight gain. So of course, I look sloppy and unkempt. Not a good look for ANYONE.

But you know what? Why should I punish myself with bad clothing just because I’m sick? I need to get back to being fabulous; size 16 be damned. So I am incredibly grateful for your site and your awesome writing because now I have a guide as to how to dress myself properly, tips on how not to be scared of color, and ideas on how to emphasize what’s awesome about my body. Because, honestly? My boobs and butt have never looked better. Sure, I’ve got a belly, but, HELLO, BOOBS.

I do have a request though: most of my weight is in my belly and my waistline is non-existent. May I request a review of shapewear? Everything/Anything from stuff you can wear on a daily basis (without passing out, or having to be all contortiony in the office bathroom) and the more heavy duty ones that will yank my waist in so I would look extra Jessica Rabbit-y in evening/cocktail dresses.

  55. Jane says:

I just came across your site and I love it. I work for a site called http://www.swimsuitsforall.com and http://www.swimwearforme.com. I think your site would be a perfect match for working together on a promo such as a product review, blogroll link, or giveaway.

Search for dress for big size woman, I stumble on your site. Great site! for long I am so shy since I am a big girl but when I saw your picts, I see dignity! Suddenly I feel so stupid, hiding and feeling shy because my body. Follow your site 🙂

  61. punkandglam says:

Don’t know if you guys are into Tshirts as fashion but there’s nothing I love better than a silly shirt and one of my favorite companies recently is called 247swag. All kinds of stuff for geeky people or party people or fitnessy people. Best thing is that their regular sized shirts all go up to 2X without costing extra and I think 3x and 4x cost an extra $5. I love when people don’t price gouge us just cause we’re a little on the husky size.

  62. I stumbled accross this blog today. I’m a size 12-14 (and on some good days a size 10… Canadian sizes)and I often look at mannequins and other girls and wonder why what looks good on them doesn’t look great on me. Until I learned how to dress my body shape. I wouldn’t trade these curves for all of the tunics in the world. We are beautiful and we have the right to express that beauty through our clothes, not just our personalities. Thank you for giving women the tools to look as fabulous as they feel!

We owe it to the world to fully be ourselves, and to wear gorgeous shoes.

  63. Linsey Fagan says:

Hi! Just wanted to say I love your site !

  64. Sarah says:

I found your site a few weeks ago and just wanted to say that I love it! I am a big girl and I have always hidden behind hideous clothes because I felt ashamed of my weight. It really makes my day to see a big beautiful woman rocking awesome clothes with a fun sense of style! Thank you for reminding me that I can be fabulous at whatever weight I am at and to start having fun with my clothes!

    • Deena says:

Hi and welcome! Thanks for the lovely comments. I hope today marks the last of your Hideous Clothes Days. From now on only Total Fabulousness is allowed!

  65. Maria says:

Wonderful site! For several years, I’ve only shopped to make sure I don’t violate laws or offend someone. Just to cover my body. Thanks to you, I am actually looking forward to my next shopping trip. You are gorgeous!

You’ve helped me realize the problem is not my body but my perception of it. Thank you so much!

  66. Day says:

Love your site! Thank you and keep it up. You are inspiring 🙂

  67. David smith says:

Has nobody told you that it is dangerous to be obese? Stop embracing something that could very well kill you and do something about it! I am not trying to make a snide remark or be an asshole but I just fail to realize why you would embrace obesity, it is an epidemic in our country and is along the same lines as smoking is in the ease of prevention.

    • Deena says:

What I embrace is a positive attitude towards my body and I encourage everyone to do the same whatever their size. I do not suggest to readers that if they are fat they should remain fat, nor do I talk about diets and losing weight as there are thousands of resources online that will do that if that is the kind of information readers are looking for. You know nothing of my health, life, routine or anything about me apart from what you see in the photos of myself that I have online, so you can only make vague and poorly informed judgements about what you think my lifestyle is like- like, “do something about it.” The blog is purely about fashion and exploring and sharing resources and ideas for dressing a plus size figure.

      Your comment is welcomed though.

  68. Sharon D says:

David, trust me. You’re being an asshole.

  69. Debra Jons says:

  70. Hi Deena,

    Hi Deena!

Your Blog is very interesting in terms of fashion and maybe our collaboration can help a lot of women.
I am a student in Esmod in France and the subject I have chosen for my final project is the creation of a new line for young overweighted women from the line Trafaluc of Zara. I need to work on the marketing part and also to design the collection. Would you mind to let me post my survey on your blog ? My target is women from 15 to 25 years old, and with a size from 44 to 54, but everyone is invited to answer. If my project is good enough I will send it to Zara.

    Thanks a lot !

    Amandine, a French reader.
