When is a stripe not a stripe?

……. when its a hoop.

I think the late noughties/ early nough-teens (!) will go down in fashion history as the decade where we stopped being happy with the tried and tested names for our clothing and started getting all creative. Long heavy cardigans became coatigans, denim leggings became jeggings, we even had treggings for a short while for goodness sake. Now the humble stripe has been rebranded and yesterdays stripes have become todays hoops.

So if wide stripes are hoops then what are these?

Colour blocking is such an old hat concept- I’m renaming them tyres. Tractor tyres in fact. And don’t think the irony is lost on me because it isn’t.

Here in Glasgow, at least the half of town where I’m from, stripes have always been hoops as worn by Celtic Football Club. Glad to see you lot down south catching up :0

    The sweaters are both lovely.

Treggings? Sound like they should be for people with three legs.

  8. It’s true, the fashion world has done a lot to refresh old styles and give them new names, but I think the creativity is great.
