Can I get an Amen?

Going by the comments under Lauren’s post, opinion is split about 50/50 with those who love the clothes and those who don’t. I personally don’t. But I do love the attitude of the show. It’s a catwalk show during fashion week season that thrusts a huge middle finger up at the industry and says f*ck flattering, this is what I want to wear. It’s fun and its a stark contrast to the work of most designers that do plus ranges and thats a bonus. Not every fat person loves Monif C’s jersey dresses, Anna Scholz’s bold prints or Elena Miro’s tailored looks. Thats not to negate the work of those designers, I’m just illustrating that what the industry needs is some diversity. You can wear a different type of look every day if you wear a size 10- why not have this option in a size 22?
I hope Gisela Ramirez goes far. The show reminds me a lot of Henry Holland’s first catwalk appearance in 2006 where he sent a load of t-shirts down the runway, emblazened with slogans in homage to supermodels. Look where he is now. Since then he’s become a more serious designer who has maintained his irreverant sense of humour, gained a solid following and has also shown he can go the commercial high street route by designing a range for Debenhams. The boy done good.
Gisela Ramirez’s online store is here.
PS- Its good to see Kellie-Jean Drinkwater back on the catwalk. I was wondering where she had gotten to, she has been missed.
SWAP!

Extremely short notice as I should have posted about this AGES ago, BUT…… Do you have a wardrobe full of unwanted but good quality items? Fancy swapping them with other fatshionistas? Well load up a bag of your unwanteds and head down to the Hoop and Grapes pub in Farringdon, London where you can swap your old garms for (nearly) new ones! The event happens today, September 10th between 2pm and 7pm and sounds like it will be a fun day. I have even heard that Simply Be might even be donating some end of line clothes to the event- but don’t quote me on that. For more info see the Facebook page or this post from the Monkey Fatshionista Blog.

Posted: September 2, 2011 Filed under: Clothing, Item of the Week | Tags: Betty Page, dress 4 Comments »Further to my last post, I’ve found these photos on the Fatshionista flickrstream of a beautiful woman by the name of Lenora Le Noire, wearing the Betty Page dress I posted about. I thought I’d share them with you because as you know, it’s always more insightful to see a potential purchase on a larger body. Lenora is also a blogger and has a site called Fat Glam Kitchen where she fuses her love of fashion with her love of cooking- and looks very glam (as the blog title suggests) while doing it.

Hip to be square
Posted: August 25, 2011 Filed under: Accessories, My Wardrobe | Tags: Evans, shoes, tights, Yours 10 Comments »When it comes to fashion decades I’m really not a fan of the 60′s. Shift dresses and box-shaped silhouettes don’t get my attention the way 70′s and 80′s looks do. Which is why I’ve surprised myself by buying these Evans shoes….
I like them so much I’m even thinking about buying them in burgundy too.
The 60′s-esque low block heel signals a huge departure for me, and tasseled loafers are far more of a classic look than I would go for normally. The very square block heel while on trend, also gives them a whiff of pensioner- chic. It’s a strange heel height- too high to be called a flat- not quite high enough to be considered a mid- heel. It’s a pensioner heel. The patent leather saves them from being all out Grandma- but only just. I think I’m going to have to exclusively wear them with snazzy tights just to snatch them from the brink of fuddy-duddyness.
Other pensioner heels I’ve found online that I quite like….

1. New Look- £29.99, 2. River Island- £35, 3. Schuh- £38, 4. Office- £58, 5. River island- £40, 6. Miss Selfridge- £40
Lets talk about the tights. I bought them on the strength of this single photo of fellow fatshion blogger, Tiffany from Fat Shopaholic..
I don’t think there was more than 3 mins between first photo sighting and me clicking “go to checkout”. Impulsive, even for an impulse buy. Instant love. I also love Tiffany. If you’ve never read her blog, go there now. Now, I said.
The true virtue of patience
Posted: August 24, 2011 Filed under: Accessories, My Wardrobe 2 Comments »Remember this bag that I told you about a few weeks back? Well as of today- its mine! I’ve been damn near salivating over it since I first saw it around May, and checking the price twice weekly since the sales started. Almost sold out online and one left in my local HoF store. Today it was reduced to £97.50 and I snapped it right up. Ding! Ding! Ding!- I WIN.

Posted: August 19, 2011 Filed under: Accessories | Tags: Modcloth, tights 6 Comments »A big fat THANK YOU to reader Coco for bringing these tights to my attention- I just had to share my instant legwear love with you all. They’re by Modcloth and available in one size to fit 160- 260lbs- which I must say is a huge size range for one pair of tights to cover. I love all shades especially the blue ones although the blue and black colours are currently out of stock. They remind me of the super glam tights by Scottish label, Bebaroque. Regarding Bebaroque tights, I am completely mystified how they can say that one size fits all from a size 6 to an 18 (click on one of their styles to see size info). Has anyone tried them? Can you vouch for this claim? Have you tried the Modcloth tights? Please share your thoughts……
