2009 Over already?….
Posted: December 31, 2009 Filed under: General Ramblings | Tags: New year 8 Comments »It doesn’t seem like a full 365 since I was last sat here reminiscing about 2008 and thinking of what 2009 might bring and here I am again, watching Jools’ Annual Hootenanny and doing the same thing as last time, albeit with a newly acquired grey hair on my chin (how did that happen?) and an extra filling in my teeth.
I’m not going to take an in-depth retrospective look of the past 12 months in fashion because I hate when magazines do that, it bores me silly. What I will say though is that 2009 was the year fat fashion made itself seen, got people talking and its been interesting hearing all the discussions the topic has raised. Hopefully 2010 will bring us even more plus size collections and more visibility in mainstream media. Thanks for sticking with me throughout 2009!

Party in the Ladies Room
Posted: December 18, 2009 Filed under: My Wardrobe 9 Comments »OOTD taken last night at the office christmas knees up in a posh hotel. Lots of people there that I knew but I still felt a bit of a banana asking someone to take a photo of me so I sneaked off to the ladies and did it there. This pic was taken at the beginning of the night. By the end of the night I was a little uh- merry, had collected five more balloons and had no problems at all asking one of the security guards to take a snap. Several. Unfortunately, I looked a complete mess by this point so you get the WC shot instead.
I was the only person who wore their party hat for the entire night. What a bunch of killjoys.
Dress: New Look
Bolero: True Corset
Vest underneath: Very old Rogers & Rogers. Its a polyester/ lycra fabric that washes extremely well and still looks as good as it did the day I bought it.

Shoes: Evans. Bought two days ago after passing through the store and seeing them on sale for a tenner- bargainicious! They are exactly the same as this pair.
Earrings: Topshop- another sale bargain from two days ago

Its Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
Posted: December 13, 2009 Filed under: Clothing | Tags: Christmas, party dresses 9 Comments »I’m a bit of a grouch when it comes to Christmas. It takes me quite a while to get into the Christmas spirit because I really don’t like the hype that surrounds it and the hoards of people out shopping just irritate me. I ignore Christmas for as long as possible until I relent and start looking for party dresses- like I am now. I only have a couple of parties to go to, one outfit is sorted but the other may well be one of these lookers below that have tickled my fancy…

It’s just that there is no other UK retailer that compares. Until a veritable competitor emerges I’ll keep harping on about them and filling my wardrobe with their clothes because no other plus size high street brand gets me as amped. Sad but true. My latest Evans crush had me so captivated the instant I saw it, I had to silently close my eyes for a moment. I opened them and it was still there, in all its Rick Owens lookalike glory-
Yes it’s suede, yes it’s harder to clean than leather, yes it’s fairly light in colour and will show up dirt, yes it will cling to every single raindrop it encounters- yes, yes, yes, yes, yes I KNOW. But look me in the eye and tell me it’s not a bad mother- (shut your mouth!)

PS- While we’re on the subject of Big E, they have a 20% off everything promotion that starts immediately online and is operational in stores on Thursday and Friday. Offer ends at midnight on Friday. YAY!
True Corset Review
Posted: December 6, 2009 Filed under: Product Reviews, Sponsored Posts | Tags: review, True Corset 5 Comments »The lovely ladies at True Corset who I wrote about a few months ago, have sent me a gift in the form of this gorgeous outfit that arrived recently.
The package consisted of a corset, satin skirt and matching bolero and I must apologise for the non ironing of the skirt- I was too stoked over the package to bother with that ironing nonsense- I just wanted to try it all on and shimmy about like a Moulin Rouge extra asap.
I decided not to post any pics from the front because as you can imagine the corset is all tits ahoy and I’m a lil shy *blush*.
The jewel in the outfit crown is undeniably the corset and I have to tell you that the make up of it is immaculate. It’s sturdy, impeccably sewn, looks as beautiful from the inside as it does from the outside, and there are no raw edges.
There is plenty of strong lacing at the back so when your maidservant has her foot in your back yanking hard to lace it tight, there’s no risk of any flimsy ribbon snapping or cutting into her fingers. For the rest of us who have to tackle these things on our own it takes a little patience to adjust the lacing to what you think might fit, put it on, do it up at the front, take off and repeat until happy with the fit. The good news is that once you’ve done it you won’t ever need to do it again.
The corset fit very well and gave me an hourglass shape which made me do a double take at my reflection as I am not naturally curvy like that. The only thing I don’t like is that the top edge of the bust doesn’t lie flat against my body so it may make it hard to wear something over it. I think I can make it work if I slightly adjust how I wear it but we’ll see.
The website recommends ordering a corset two inches smaller than your natural waist. My natural waist is 49 inches and my corset when laced up edge to edge measures approx 44″ inches. There is a 5″ modesty panel at the back that gives extra room for adjustment so you can have it as tight or loose as is comfortable and still remain covered in the back.
The skirt fits PERFECTLY along with the bolero…
….which are both contenders for my works Christmas party outfit but I of course won’t be wearing the corset as I don’t much fancy being the topic of the next days water cooler convos.
Would I recommend? Yup. The bolero and skirt are easy to wear items that I know I’ll turn to again and again especially over the party season. Naturally the corset is fairly rigid and is not designed for lounging around watching TV all evening, but for those occasions when you want full volume sex appeal it’s perfect and will definitely bring all the boys to the yard.
The Regular Irregular Suspects
Posted: December 4, 2009 Filed under: Accessories | Tags: Irregular Choice, shoes 15 Comments »For ten years now Irregular Choice have been the affordable go to brand for quirky footwear and they show no signs of abating. A browse through the latest offerings on their website during a cold wet lunchtime yesterday, was enough to lift my spirits and get my imagination working…
If Optimus Prime had a baby with Little Red Riding Hood it would like this
If Christina McKinney (Ugly Betty) had a baby with Leatherface and Heidi of the Alps (yes, three parents in my surreal other universe) it would look like this…
If Rainbow Brite and Yosemite Sam got togther their offspring would look like this…
If Jamie and the Magic Torch and the Kellogs Cockrel had a baby it would look like this…..
